Sun still shines brightly on nation’s solar plans

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic effectively pressing the pause button on many upcoming construction projects in the country, four major solar projects are still on schedule and expected to start generating power to the grid by the end of 2020.

The four solar projects were approved by the Council of the Ministers in July 2019 and the National Assembly approved a draft provision with a state guarantee in December.

The four solar projects are located in four provinces. They are comprised of a 30 mW solar plant in Banteay Meanchey (Ray Power Supply Co Ltd), a 60 mW solar plant in Battambang (Risen Energy Co Ltd), a 30 mW solar plant in Pursat (SchneiTec Infinite Co Ltd) and a 20 mW solar plant in Svay Rieng (Green Sustainable Ventures Co Ltd).
